SMB Scanning Stops Working After Windows Update
#1
A while back we had a few customers, all on Windows 2008 R2 (and some Windows 7 and 8.1) reported that Scanning to Folder (SMB) had suddenly stopped working.

Because multiple sites were affected, the first place we looked at was Windows Updates.

After noting that all sites had recently had Updates installed we were lucky enough to drill through the most recent ones and do a bit of research and post the results here for you.

The offending Windows Update is KB3161949.

There are two workarounds to resolve the issue.

1) Remove the Update (and make sure it doesn’t come back again)

2) Add the following Registry entry leaving the Update installed.
    Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters

Add DWORD AllowNBToInternet and change Value to 1

Reboot the Server/Computer…
