Cannot Delete Shadow Copies with VSSAdmin
#1
Error when you try and delete Shadow Copies with Windows 2008/2012 with VSSAdmin:

"Error: Snapshots were found, but they were outside your allowed context. Try removing them with the backup application which created them."

I have seen this on multiple occasions and which lead to some backup failures using third-party Backup Applications.
I suspect that the cause is the Backup Application itself and in the way it creates the Shadow Copies when executed (resulting in corrupt copies).

SOLUTION:
Use Diskshadow instead (the new and improved replacement to Vssadmin).
Diskshadow will allow you to delete corrupt Shadow Coppies (unlike VSSAdmin).
